Sulbutiamine Sulbutiamine is a novel fat soluble derivatives of thiamine, which has two different properties incomparison with vitamin B1 as a result of structural modification of free thiamine.
Sulbutiamine can cross the blood brain barrier more easily than vitamin B1 because of its lipophilic. It can be rapidly absorbed and the concentration is maximum in 1-2 hours after oral administration. The molecule rapidly distribute in the whole body and is eliminated with a biological half-life of 5 hours.
Sulbutiamine is also used to increase mental focus, provide a clear mind and promote general vigilance. It has beneficial effects on working and episodic memory by improving memory formation and has been described as a centrally acting cholinergic agent.
