Function and Usage: Zeaxanthin is one of the major components of the macular pigment. The macula is packed with color-sensitive photoreceptor cells and is responsible for sharp vision. Zeaxanthin is rich in corn. Zeaxanthin is found in the macula of the human retina, as well as the human crystalline lens. It is thought to play a role in protection against age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and age-related cataract formation. It may also be protective against some forms of cancer. This carotenoids are sometimes referred to as macular yellow, retinal carotenoids or macular pigment.
