Indication &Usage  Podophyllum Resin is the powdered mixture of resins extracted from Podophyllum by percolation with Alcohol and subsequent precipitation from the concentrated percolate upon addition to acidified water. It contains NLT 40.0% and NMT 50.0% of hexane-insoluble matter. In USP30.

Picropodophyllotoxin, derivate of podophyllotoxin, exists in crude product of Podophyllum and it has no clinical usage, while may cause side effect. So high purity of podophyllotoxin could be better to fit for pharmaceutical usage.

Podophyllin resin and Podophyllotoxin lotion or gel remove genital warts by stopping cell growth. A few hours after podophyllum is applied to a wart, the wart becomes blanched (loses all color). In 24 to 48 hours, the medicine causes death of the tissue. After about 72 hours, the wart begins to slough or come off and gradually disappears.

Petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline, is used to protect health tissue near the warts from irritation.
