[Main pharmacology activities ]
1.Blood sugar lowering activities
DNJ is an effective inhibitor of α-glucosidase, it can inhibit hyperglycemia by reducing the digestion of carbohydrate and the absorption of glucose. So DNJ can be used to treat diabetes and its complication, obesity and the related functional disorder.
2.Inhibition to virus infections
It is reported that DNJ is an effective inhibitor to AIDS (HIV). DNJ has a remarkable resistance to virus, its IC50 is 1.2~2.5μg/ml, and the inhibition enhances along with the increase of DNJ concentration. Steinmann E conformed that HIV can be rapidly killed after adding DNJ to HIV medium in 2007.
3.Inhibition to tumor metastasis
DNJ also play an important role in inhibiting tumor metastasis. TsulomuTsuruoka has studied the possible relationship between tumor metastasis and DNJ by constructing black lung tumor modals in mouse.Function principal maybe is that tumor cells produce inadequate carbohydrate chain on cell’s surface caused by DNJ inhibiting ability to α-glucosidase
